The great cow escape occurred in Trumbull around 10 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 7 near Old Town Road and Reservoir Avenue.

The cow was bought earlier in the day at an auction by an area resident, said Lt. Brian Weir of the Trumbull Police.

It was housed in a small barn, and when the owner went to check on it, the cow was gone.

When police responded to the report of the cow on the road, they found it in a fenced-in yard. No word on how it was put in the yard.

The owner found the cow and was making arrangements to get the animal back home.
